Heart continues beating after being turned to supply the body with the blood that feeds it. It simply beats at a pace that’s so slow and weak that it’s undetectable. Pulse may temporarily return to normal in certain situations.
Blood is absorbed through the stomach lining into the veins, which is then slowly pumped through the body to nourish the vampire.
Saliva glands now produce anesthetic and anti-clotting enzyme.
The adrenal gland enlarges and is constantly active, allowing enhanced reflexes and strength.
Should a vampire be unable to feed for too long, the body begins to shut down and dehydrate, causing mummification. The vampire will stay in this state until it senses a nearby food source again, when it can force itself to move and feed until it’s body returns to normal again.
Vampires suffer from an extremely acute case of photosensitivity. Any contact with sunlight will cause pain and injury, and exposed to it for too long, will cause death.
While for the most part a vampire will retain their thinking ability, some instincts become very powerful and difficult to control. Feeding instinct: triggered by intense hunger. Defensive instinct: triggered by extreme fear or anger. And Mating* instinct: Triggered by arousal. Loss of control in such situations may result in increased heart rate.
*Despite the fact that vampires can no longer reproduce, the need to mate remains, for both pleasure and company purposes.*
Vampires are immune to illness, the virus that turned them being potent enough to fight off any other bacteria.
During the transformation from human to vampire, Enamel grows thicker and longer to form fangs. These fangs will continue to grow throughout the vampire’s existence, and will need to be filled back every now and then to remain at a convenient length.
Almost all senses become extremely powerful. They stronger, faster, and have better reflexes than any human could ever hope to achieve. Eye sight becomes so good they can see perfectly in the darkest night, and could count the ants on a tree from across the length of an Olympic swimming pool. Hearing can detect people whispering from the same distance. Maybe even more. Sense of smell exceeds that of a bloodhound. No pun intended. Sense of taste...Is the only thing that has dulled, rather than being sharpened. The only thing a Vampire from his world can taste, is blood.
